Dine in Royal Surroundings
We are immensely proud to have been awarded 3AA Rosettes for the exceptional quality of our cuisine, alongside 4AA Red Stars in recognition of the outstanding service offered throughout our dining rooms.
Dining with us is a truly indulgent experience, where exquisite interiors and impeccable attention to detail are complemented by a warm, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Guests may choose from an extensive selection of beautifully crafted menus*, thoughtfully designed to suit every occasion. Dinner is served each evening from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
For those celebrating a special occasion—or simply wishing to experience something extraordinary—our Six-Course Tasting Menu is available throughout the week, with last orders at 8.30pm. This exceptional culinary journey is wonderfully extravagant and something we believe every guest should enjoy at least once.
Our seasonal Dinner Menu celebrates the finest ingredients and produce, much of which is grown within our own kitchen garden. Harvested each morning, these ingredients bring remarkable freshness, flavour and provenance to every plate.
In keeping with a castle steeped in history, we serve a decadent Afternoon Tea in our elegant lounges each day from 1.00pm to 4.00pm—a timeless British tradition, presented with a distinctive sense of occasion.
For a more relaxed dining experience, guests are invited to select from our All-Day Dining Menu, available in the library and lounge areas. Younger guests are equally well catered for, with a specially prepared children’s menu.
*Please note, all menus are samples and dishes may vary. A discretionary 12.5% service charge will be added to your bill.
Afternoon Tea
The concept of afternoon tea was first proposed by the Duchess of Bedford in the 1830s. What could be more opulent than reliving this royal custom in a historic castle two centuries later? Book afternoon tea for £45 per person. Our Festive Afternoon Tea will be available from 24th November, 2025. *Please note a discretionary 12.5% service charge will be added to your bill.
Private dining
For special occasions, the distinctive architecture of the castle provides a number of rooms of various sizes and for various styles of function.
Meet the Culinary Director, David Williams
David Williams, Culinary Director at Thornbury Castle, boasts a career spanning over 30 years. He began his training at 3 Michelin Star level with Joel Robuchon in Paris and became a Head Chef by the time he was just 24. David won a Michelin Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide, and also won Young Scottish Chef of the Year in 1998. Awarded 3AA rosettes by the time he was 26, David went on to run a Michelin Star restaurant in London at just 28. Joining the team at Thornbury Castle in 2024 David’s long-term plan is to reflect the quality of the surroundings in the output of the kitchen. Whilst accolades are rewarding, it’s not his main priority: “I want to offer guests a culinary adventure, whether that be enjoying the grandeur of eating in a castle to the gastronomic intricacies of a Tasting Menu. It’s important that the harmony between produce being grown in the kitchen garden, and a fine dining experience is fully realised and that is my intention for Thornbury Castle”.
